Customer Question

What timber species are available apart from pine and rimu?

Rickmans Advice

Practically any timber species can be sourced and manufactured to the customers requirements. Limitations may include availability from suppliers and manufacturing capabilities.

Customer Question

Is matai the best timber for a dance floor in a hall? I have been told that matai has natural oil in the timber, is nice and springy and the best for long term duribility as it doesnt need polyurethane?

Rickmans Advice

Matai is recognised as being very good for dance floors.

Customer Question

I am looking for some interesting wood to turn on my lathe. Do you have anything available?

Rickmans Advice

We have a number of different species, and it would depend on the species and length/s required as to costs.

Customer Question

We are attempting to source New Zealand Maple and Beech. Please advise availability, specification and price.

Rickmans Advice

Specific information regarding availability, specifications and price is only available if you specify a size or range of sizes and specification/profile or purpose. This information varies according to quantity and time of the request.

Customer Question

Do you supply suitable timber to build a wooden driveway gate with the top of the gate curved in design.

Rickmans Advice

You could build it from any hardwood or treated timber. We don't supply curved timber

Customer Question

I'm an artist and I'm wanting to sculpt a head out of wood. I'm wondering whether Rickman's might be able to inform me as to what would be the most appropriate wood to use to sculpt, and where I' m able to purchase such wood.

Rickmans Advice

We are not in the business of supplying or advising on projects of this nature. You would be better to approach an experienced sculptor.

Customer Question

I would like to cover the outside of a concrete house with timber. What kind of timber would you recommend?

Rickmans Advice

It would need to be any timber treated appropriately, H3 generally suits most outside situations. Painted pine should be a suitable timber for this application.

Customer Question

Do you import wood from abroad e.g. Canada or Scandinavia?

Rickmans Advice

Generally all our timber is locally sourced.
