Customer Question
I understand LOSP treated decking and cladding is safer than CCA. Do I need to oil the material with anything to prevent the cladding from weathering?
Rickmans Advice
Yes we advise you to. There are products you can buy at any reputable paint stores to maintain the quality and look of your decking.
We have seen the results on a Kwila deck, where it has been applied every summer, resulting in a superb looking deck.

Customer Question
I am intending to use hardwood from East Coast Tasmania for bearers and joists, etc. How difficult is it for these timbers to be treated with LOSP?
Rickmans Advice
The LOSP uptake in these timbers is minimal but added protection can be beneficial.

Customer Question
What's the process.
Rickmans Advice
Timber has to have a moisture content of between 18-20% before we can treat it. The timber is branded with the appropriate brand ie: H1 plus or H3.
We load the timber onto a carriage and put it into a cylinder. The treatment process is then begun with fluid forced into the timber cells. Then we vaccum back as much fluid as possible so that the timber comes out of the cylinder touch dry. The whole treatment process takes about 30 minutes. Timber can be painted in fine weather conditions within 4-5 days.

Customer Question
I'd like to use one of your interior timber mouldings outside, can you treat it to H3 standard for exterior use?
Rickmans Advice
Yes we can, however it would incur H3 treating costs which would add approximately 15% to the cost. There would also be a few days delay while we treated it.

Customer Question
I have a quantity of Kauri. Can you advise where I might get this tanalised?
Rickmans Advice
We don't do tanalisation, we only treat to H3 using the methods mentioned on this website. Should you wish to find a company that can offer tanalisation please consult the yellow pages.
