Customer Question

How do you attach a newel post to the first stair tread in a house that has a concrete slab foundation?

Rickmans Advice

Bolt the post to the stringer.

Customer Question

How do you connect the wooden handrail to the newel post?

Rickmans Advice

Dowel and glue the rail to the top of the post.

Customer Question

How do you mount a newel post to a wooden deck?

Rickmans Advice

Either bolt it to the deck edge or use a galvanised piece of angle bolted through the deck and then through the post

Customer Question

What is the standard spacing of balusters and how often should I insert newell posts? Additionally what is the normal height of the top rail above the deck?

Rickmans Advice

This is a guideline only as you will need to check your local council bylaws.

The standard spacing between balusters is 100mm. The standard height of the top rail is 1m above the bottom rail

Customer Question

To build a handrail from 50mm round rimu are there bends & angles for typical stairs?

Rickmans Advice

Yes there are. We sell 90 degree bends.
